SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Anti-Bullying Coalition is presenting its statewide educational and motivational campaign at an assembly for nearly 10,000 high school students on Nov. 16 at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

The program, featuring guest speaker Rosalind Wiseman, begins at 10 a.m. with music, messages and tools to stop bullying, build self-esteem and empower students. Lukas Graham, known for smash hits “You’re Not There” and “7 Years,” headlines the entertainment along with Orem-based band Foreign Figures, master of ceremonies Casey Scott of KUTV Television, the Utah Jazz Bear mascot and other performers and motivators.

Participating schools need to register in advance with Pam Hayes of the Utah Anti-Bullying Coalition at (801) 661-7059 or [email protected].

“Our mission is to end bullying in Utah,” said Gail Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz and chair of the Utah Anti-Bullying Coalition. “We believe that Utah’s schools should be places where children feel safe and welcome. This program has the potential to save lives, help develop student leaders, emphasize the power of kindness, and give them proven approaches to stop bullying.”

The keynoter Wiseman is an expert on ethical leadership, media literacy and bullying prevention. She authored the groundbreaking, best-selling book, Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and the New Realities of Girl World that was the basis for the movieMean Girls.

The gathering at Vivint Smart Home Arena will be its largest Utah Anti-Bullying Coalition assembly ever with youth from around the state. As part of program, students are asked to stand for kind, and challenged to do acts of kindness daily. Training programs are also available for bus drivers, parents and staff. Student Ambassador Clubs have been established to teach and promote leadership.

Last year, the Utah Anti-Bullying Coalition counted 14 student lives saved from a suicide crisis, more than 1,000 reports of bullying, and more than 200,000 “Stand4Kind” random acts of kindness.
